POEM OF THE WEEK

Sweet Dreams

One night Neal went to sleep
And had a very happy dreams.
He dreamed he ate three bowls.
Of chocolate-chip ice cream.

The very next morning,
When Neal was wide awake,
He said, “Next time I dream,
I’d like to eat some cake!”
Practice to be read aloud on Wednesday.
Writers Workshop
This nine weeks we are working on Organization of our ideas in our writings. We will work on beginnings, middles, and endings. The next few weeks we will be working on Bold Beginnings. Students are learning the various ways to make their writings more interesting. The beginning of their stories need to have catching sentences so the reader would like to hear more.
A few of the ideas we have been working on are:
Lights, Camera, Action:
Example: "For the last time," my dad said, "Put your gum here."
Single Word:
Example: Gum. Gum was everywhere, It was in my hair. It was in the carpet. It was in my pillow.
Fascinating Fact:
Example: I blow a bubble bigger that my brother's head.
Imagine This:
Example: The gum made my bangs stick straight out from my head.
It's Just My Opinion:
Example: Kids should be able to chew gum any time they want.
Listen Up:
Example: Smack, snap, snap.
I Wonder:
Example: Have you ever wondered how many pieces of gum will fit into the human mouth? Five? Ten? More?
Have a great week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
